Accessing RStudio

You can access RStudio in three ways:

  1. Docker containers: As a Duke student, you can access RStudio through a Docker container maintained by Duke OIT. Go to https://vm-manage.oit.duke.edu/containers and log in using your Duke NetID credentials.

  2. RStudio Cloud: Sign up for a free account https://rstudio.cloud/

  3. Install R on your computer: See the chapter Install or upgrade R and RStudio in Happy Git and GitHub for the useR for step-by-step instructions to install R and RStudio.

Using the interactive tutorials

Many of the tutorials on this site were created using Shiny from RStudio. You will need to log into Duke’s VPN in order to access these tutorials.

If you do not have Duke’s VPN client installed on your computer, go to https://portal.duke.edu to install the appropriate VPN client.

To log into VPN:

  1. Click on the VPN client. Type vpn.duke.edu and click Connect.
  2. Enter your Duke NetID and password.
  3. Choose an option to receive the multi-factor authentication and complete the authentication process.
  4. Click continue, and you are now in the VPN and ready to do the interactive tutorials!
